Mr. Tippett was appointed Secretary of the NC Department of Transportation in January 2001 and served as a member of the NC Board of Transportation for eight years before that. While on the board, he served as Chairman of the Audit and Contract Committee.
He is a graduate of Barton College with a bachelor's degree in accounting. He has been a partner with the accounting firm Tippett, Padrick, Bryan, Merritt and Raynor, CPAs since 1976. Prior to that he was Vice-President and CEO of Bybon, Inc, a company with retail, manufacturing, farming and real estate operations.
Tippett is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the N.C. Association of Certified Public Accountants. He also serves on a number of other boards, including Methodist College, University of North Carolina at Pembroke Foundation, Fayetteville State University Foundation, Airborne and Special Operations Museum, Fayetteville Area Metropolitan TAC, Cumberland County Community Health Care Council, First Citizens Bank Local Board, Dawson Builders, Inc., and Remit Corporation.
Tippett serves as chair of the North Carolina Turnpike Authority Board of Directors.
