NCTA and NCDOT To Hold Meetings for Gaston East-West Connector

RALEIGH - The N.C. Turnpike Authority and N.C. Department of Transportation will hold three public informational workshops next week in the Gastonia and Charlotte areas on a proposed road in southern Gaston County.

Known as the Gaston East-West Connector, the new multi-lane road would link Interstate 85 west of Gastonia with Interstate 485 west of the Charlotte Douglas International Airport in Mecklenburg County. The connector is currently under consideration for development as one of the state’s first toll roads.

The workshops will be held between 4:30 and 8 p.m. on the following dates and locations:
  • Tuesday, Jan. 30 -- Hunter Huss High School at 1518 Edgefield Ave., Gastonia;
  • Wednesday, Feb. 1 -- Olympic High School at 4301 Sandy Porter Road, Charlotte; and
  • Thursday, Feb. 2 -- South Point High School at 906 South Point Road, Belmont.
No formal presentations will be made, and citizens are encouraged to come when it is most convenient during the time interval. The workshop series will present maps and information on the alternatives to be studied in detail during the next phase of planning and design. The same materials will be presented at each of the workshops.
