The Triangle Expressway NCTA and the NCDOT are working together to perform all Design-Build services for the Triangle Expressway. While NCTA is the lead agency for all activities for this corridor, NCDOT is performing critical activities for the projects. NCDOT’s Alternative Delivery Unit is a key member of the Triangle Expressway Team and will be heavily involved in all procurement, design submittal reviews, and other related activities. Design-Build is the procurement method of choice for major toll road projects around the country. Design-Build allows for the contracting of both the final design and the construction in one contract. This allows for faster overall delivery times, better constructability processes, opportunities for innovation, and better cost certainty when going to contract. The Design-Build procurement process utilized by NCTA is a two-step process, which consists of creating a reduced candidate list based on responses to project advertisements, followed by submission of technical proposals and cost proposals.
